From Service to Service: Career Opportunities in the World of Service, Military Hiring, Apprenticeships and Internal Progression.
This episode of the HFG podcast hits the road! Martin heads to Hunt Forest Group’s most westerly branch at Nether Stowey, to speak to some members of the team down in Somerset.
Joined by Nick Hill, HFG’s Group Service Manager, they explore career options for Agricultural and Turf service technicians. Nick explains John Deere’s military hiring program, designed to help ex and transitioning military personnel gain valuable qualifications and experience for a career outside of the armed forces.
The conversation then shifts to apprenticeships, specifically the John Deere ProVQ scheme. They chat with first-year apprentice Toby and recent graduate John about their experiences, daily routines, and whether they recommend the apprenticeship path to future school leavers.
Finally, Nether Stowey Service Manager Andy Scott joins the discussion. Andy shares his background, how he progressed within the company, and the challenges of managing a team he was once part of.
Nick also highlights some of Hunt Forest Group’s current vacancies for listeners, who may be interested in a career change into the agriculture or grounds care service industries.

As the research and development of John Deeres Precision Technologies increases year on year, the integration of Telematics and Guidance systems into Professional Turf and Golf equipment is key for businesses and operators to develop efficient, cost-effective, streamlined working practices where small margins can make all the difference.
John Deere turf machines now arrive technology-ready and fitted with various ‘Precision’ components. Having members of our team who are knowledgeable not only in the Fine turf industry but have also undertaken extensive product training is crucial for us as a dealership to be able to offer our customers the best possible support and advice. Be it with demonstrations, utilising the technology at hand from the products we offer, or fault-finding if there are queries or questions.
With this in mind, we would like to introduce Craig Woodman to the team at Hunt Forest Group. Craig has many years of experience with Golf Courses and greenkeeping and will now be the first port of call for anything precision-related as our Precision Turf Specialist. With a few early adopters of John Deere’s precision technology already running connected machines, Craig will be actively monitoring connected Operations Center accounts and utilising this knowledge with customers new and old, encouraging users to come on board and benefit from this data-driven platform with their new machinery.
Craig is based out of our Blashford branch near Ringwood but will be covering our entire trading area with Product demonstrations, support, and Precision technology. Look out for our new John Deere 4066R demonstrator tractor equipped with AutoTrac steering and RTK Guidance. We have already had a lot of interest in seeing this machine in action and look forward to showcasing the technology it offers throughout 2024.
Please join us in welcoming Craig to the team here at Hunt Forest Group, if you require any product or technical support or have any questions for Craig, please feel free to contact him on 07483 963383 or email at craigwoodman@huntforest.com.
