Team HFG Conquer The Jurassic Coast

A team from Hunt Forest Group decided to embark on the challenging Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike to help raise money for Macmillan. Due to the death of Her Majesty the Queen, Macmillan Cancer Support made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event. As a group, the HFG team had trained so hard for the hike and wanted to thank all their families, friends, customers, and suppliers for all their support and generous donations.

So, on Saturday 24th September 2022 after the period of National Mourning the HFG team decided to take on the marathon challenge no matter what. Between them, they all had varied reasons as to why they had decided to undertake the challenge. Some members have had family and friends who have battled cancer and, in some cases, sadly lost the fight. However, their memory lives on, and they would walk to remember them.

At 7:45am they gathered at Beach Car Park in Weymouth and set off on the big hike to Lulworth Cove, with several kind volunteers on hand to staff the refuelling stations along the way. Anyone who has walked this part of the Jurassic coast will know just how steep some of the inclines are and the impact it has on the body. Just after midday, they had made it to Lulworth for lunch, a chance to rest momentarily and refuel for the journey back. Faced with the same Dorset clifftops for the reverse journey the team marched gleefully on, some returning to Weymouth late afternoon, others taking their time and enjoying the beautiful autumnal weather and the stunning scenery to cross the finish line in the early evening.

Exhausted and elated our team of Mighty Hikers managed to walk the final few steps to a local pub to celebrate with a well-earned pint or isotonic sports drink to discuss the day’s events and congratulate each other on the mammoth total raised of over £15,500. Well done to everyone involved, from our Mighty Hikers to all of those that have supported team HFG with donations and more. Thank you!
