A History of Pushing Boundaries: Club Car's Innovation

Club Car has been a constant innovator since its founding in 1962. They’ve consistently led the industry, from introducing the first golf car with a steering wheel to pioneering the use of automotive-grade lithium-ion batteries.

In 1997, Club Car partnered with Valderrama, the first Ryder Cup host in Continental Europe, to embrace a “green vision.” At that time, golf carts were overwhelmingly gas-powered. However, Valderrama’s owner, Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, believed in electric vehicles for a more sustainable future. Club Car rose to the challenge, supplying nearly 200 electric cars for the tournament, serviced by a dedicated on-site team. This forward-thinking approach aligned perfectly with Valderrama’s commitment to environmental responsibility and helped pave the way for a greener future on the golf course.

Driving The Ryder Cup Since 1997

The year 1997 marked a turning point for the Ryder Cup. Previously confined to Great Britain & Ireland and the United States since 1923, the competition was poised for a new chapter. The inclusion of continental European players in 1979 paved the way for the Cup’s historic debut at Valderrama, Spain, under the legendary Seve Ballesteros’ captaincy.
